1. Polish the nail in any background color the client requests. Allow the polish to dry. Using light beige paint, create a band of color down one side of the nail. 2. With darker beige or light brown paint, add wood grain to the ruler. Let the nail dry. 3. Mix a little black paint and brown paint on a paper or palette. With a small art brush, add inch marks to the ruler. Put shorter marks between the inches to create half-, quarter- and eighth-inch marks. 4. Add numbers on the ruler and, with a striping brush, paint a line to separate the ruler from the nail’s base color. After the nail is dry, apply top coat.
