Nail Artist Q&A: “Nailed Down!” with Kristy Marsh!

Kristy Marsh Composit

Welcome to NAILPRO’s Nailed Down! where we “nail down” nail artists and technicians from our User Galleries and get to know them and their amazing work!

This week we visit Ocala, Florida!

Meet Kristy Marsh:

Where do you work?
I am currently working at Creative Cuts Hair Studio on Baseline Rd. This is my first salon job!

Tell us about how you got started in the nail industry.
I have always been interested in the beauty industry and last year decided to make my dream come true. I decided out of all of my choices, nails gave me everything I was looking for. After all, I love every thing that shines or sparkles. Doing nails gives me such a great outlet for exploring my creative side.

What/Who inspires your work?
I find inspiration in so many places. My friends laugh at me because I’ll see a cute dress or shirt and they know I’m thinking about putting it on a nail. I draw ideas and inspiration from NAILPRO’s magazine, website, and FB page. Young Nails education videos and FB page tutorials are awesome too. And, of course, Pinterest. I mean, who doesn’t love Pinterest, right? The best inspiration comes from my clients who are never afraid to ask for something fabulous!

Are there any tool(s) you can’t live without?
I love the Young Nails Magic Wand. It is a great tool for acrylics and gels. A really good quality electric file and UV/LED light are a must.

Do you have a favorite technique or style?
I use the reverse application for acrylic and gels. This gives me the tightest and deepest smile lines. Although, I think it’s important for everyone to find what works for them. As long as the end result is stellar nails and client satisfaction.

What is your craziest/funniest nail story?
Since I only graduated this year, I don’t have too many crazy stories, but here’s one that might make you giggle. I was giving a client, a young female, a pedicure. She had been discussing her friend’s man-problems and then her own. I am happily married but wanted her to know I understood. So, as I was massaging her leg, I said, “Yeah, men can be jerks, I totally get lesbians.” I looked up and she was making this funny face. I then had to assure her that I wasn’t a lesbian or making a pass at her! Oops. Anyway, we both had a laugh!

What tip can you offer to other nail technicians?
The only real tip that I think is worth much is to believe in yourself and continue learning. Don’t be afraid to try new things because that will only stifle your imagination. If you don’t know it, learn it. It’s worth it!

Do you have anything else you’d like to add?
Thank you to NAILPRO for letting me be a part of this.
