Make a Difference
The National Cosmetology Association (NCA) is launching Dining For Change, an event where beauty professionals can come together on the evening of March 22 and host an intimate dinner party in their Dining for Changeown community to help raise money and improve the lives of those impacted by breast cancer, domestic abuse and natural disasters. The organization hopes to hold thousands of dinner parties across the U.S. to benefit the following charities:

Salons Against Domestic Abuse Fund/CUT IT OUT: An organization dedicated to mobilizing salon professionals and others to fight the epidemic of domestic abuse through building awareness and training salon professionals to recognize warning signs and safely refer clients to local resources (www.cutitout.org)
Look Good...Feel Better: A free, nationwide program that offers cancer patients help and encouragement from salon professionals to help cope with the side effects of cancer treatment (www.lookgoodfeelbetter.org)
NCA Disaster Relief Fund: This fund provides emergency cash assistance to directly support salon professionals impacted by natural disasters so that they can rebuild their lives—and careers—as quickly as possible. (www.ncacares.org)

To sign up to host your own Dining For Change dinner—anything from a pizza party to a potluck celebration to a formal dinner party—call 312.527.6765 or visit www.ncacares.org for more details.

Harpers BazaarCover Girls
One of the industry’s top manicurists, Tom Bachik—a Nailpro cover artist and competition judge—has been working hard to primp and polish the nails of celebrities for their cover close ups. For the January issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Bachik manicured Victoria Beckham’s nails and polished them a creamy pink for the cover. Inside the magazine, Beckham’s nails are front and center—and look spectacular—while she shows off her gigantic diamond ring and models a gorgeous Balmain dress. Bachik also worked with Jessica Simpson to beautify Jessica Simpsonher nails for Marie Claire’s January issue, where he used a milky pink lacquer to complete her fashionable look. Thanks to Bachik, now we know that even the most glamorous of celebrities need professional nail primping!

Twilight Zone
China Glaze nail tech Marsha Bialo flexed her manicuring muscles for the winter 2009 cover of Teen magazine. Bialo pampered the nails of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, stars of the vampire romance flick Twilight. She tended to Pattinson’s Teen Magazine, Twilightcuticles with China Glaze Orange Cuticle Oil and made his nails camera-ready by buffing them to a high shine. “It was a crazy shoot with 19 hairdressers and 15 makeup artists. Robert and I just sat over in a corner out of traffic and chit-chatted while I massaged his cuticles,” says Bialo. After her pleasant experience with Pattinson, whom she described as being “the most modest, easy-going guy you can imagine,” Bialo moved on to his costar, where she dolled up Stewart’s nails with China Glaze soft pink Innocence lacquer.
