What is MMA Acrylic for Nails?

Methyl methacrylate (MMA) is an acrylic monomer first invented for ?the dental industry, where it continues to do a wonderful job for teeth. However, its composition makes it unsuitable for the nail industry. When combined with acrylic powders, the resulting enhancement is too hard, ?so any breaks can be painful and damage natural nails. Some nonstandard salons use MMA because it’s priced much lower than ethyl methacrylate (EMA), the traditional salon monomer. The federal government’s expert Cosmetic Ingredient Review panel has approved EMA for use in nail services. Several state boards prohibit the use of MMA in salons.
