Summer 2024 nail trends have been all about maximalism and making your nail sets larger than life. One of the frequent trends we've been seeing across our feed is a combination of 3D citrus fruit and Clase Azul patterns, inspired by the brand's tequila bottles. Nail artist Natalie Ulloa (@natulloanails) followed this trend, creating a stunning set featuring 3D limes that we can't take our eyes off of! Below, she shares what inspired the set and how you can recreate the look!
"What inspired me to do the Lime Clase Azul set was actually the comments left on one of my viral videos," Ulloa shares. "The majority of the comments said the set would be better with limes so that’s what I did, and I’m so happy with the result! I’m from a small town in Jalisco, Mexico that’s close to the town of Tequila. Getting to use Clase Azul’s beautiful handcrafted bottles as my inspiration for this set makes me feel closer to home and my heritage."
How-To:
1. Prep the nails and cuticle area then add rubber base and cure.
2. Apply almond gel tips, shape and buff them.
For the lime nails:
3. Use two different green jelly gel colors and an ombré brush to create the mixed look of the lime’s base color with each stroke and cure.
4. Closer to the cuticle, paint a thicker line with a darker green gel polish to represent the lime’s outermost layer, then cure
5. With white gel polish and a very thin brush, paint fine lines from the center out to represent the lime’s pit and cure.
6. Use clear hard gel and a thin brush to create a 3D effect of the lime’s pulpy interior. Start from out to center for a more realistic look and cure in between each “pulpy” line.
For the Clase Azul nails:
7. Apply 1-2 layers of white gel polish and cure. Continue to paint blue accents to represent the beautiful ceramic bottle’s art and cure. If it becomes hard to do the rounder nail art, I recommend using a dotting tool and a 7 mm brush.
8. On the center of the nail paint the bottle’s agave plant accent, using silver gel polish and a fine brush. Then, cure.
9. Use your favorite non-wipe glossy top coat, and cure to finish!
"The reason I think this citrus design is trendy is that it’s so satisfying in ever aspect — The vibrant colors and patterns, watching the process and my personal favorite: the satisfaction of being able to touch a 3D lime on your nails," adds Ulloa.
